The 2002 - 2003 Print Marketing Collateral / Print Advertising
I've included these samples, less for their design than for their conceptual consistancy as a set. The collateral pieces are printed on Utopia paper and the series has an overall richness that is a nice blend of graphic design and paper surface quality. You will find Addressograph's PatientWorks Collateral in a seperate section on this page. For more information on the decision making process behind the creation of PatientWorks and the seperate marketing entities of "Addressograph Healthcare, Addressograph Marking Systems, Addressograph Financial," and "Addressograph Plastics" see the IDENTITY PORTFOLIO page of this web site.

PRINT PORTFOLIO
Corporate / Product Newsletters:
Client: NewBold Corporation
Product / Brand: Addressograph Healthcare Products
Job: Addressograph Update
This practical, cost effective promotional vehicle was designed to be used as both a printed mailing piece and as an e-mail promotional newsletter. Designed for quick identification and perceived value, this economical design solution (which included a preprinted envelope), could be modified at a moments notice with overprinting performed in-house. The formate design and printed message combined to make this one of the most successful direct mail vehicles for Addressograph products. It's low cost also helped to introduce the new identity of "Addressograph Healthcare" to a much larger stratification of the health care market at very little cost. The seperate envelope also provided for the insertion of other materials when appropriate.
The London Town News
I am very proud of this newsletter design for the London Town Foundation. Over time, it has become one of my favorite pieces. Not only are the design solutions pleasing to me, but the content was always fascinating and the design lent itself to that content nicely. As a marketing vehicle, the London Town News had an ambitious set of objectives that informed the finished design. Firstly, it was a fund raising and membership building device for the non-profit foundation both on a corporate partner and an individual level. Secondly, each issue needed to convey content representative of the serious, scholarly research being done at the London Town site. This included not only traditional historical research, but also, archeology, historic and architectural preservation, horticultural studies and educational programing and lectures. These endevors needed voice and the credibility of each issue of the newsletter needed to stand-up to the test of scholarly scrutiny. The appearence of the layout and each design element therefore had to reflect the serious nature of the entire London Town project.

The Kentucky College of Business Newsletter
Quarterly Sunday Supplement to newspapers throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky
This two color newsletter was designed as a public relations and enrolment vehicle for the six college locations across Kentucky. While its content varied somewhat from issue to issue the overall message and purpose remained the same. In addition to the insertion distribution schedule, the publication was employed as a direct mail piece on the campus level and as part of the advertising fulfillment program.

Addressogaph Direct Mailer
I have included this targeted direct mail piece for Addressograph Healthcare imprinters not because it is one of the better samples of my graphic design work, but rather because I think that it is an outstanding example of how to design an effective mail marketing piece. Each step of the way, the recipient is enticed to read further. This printed mailer is a textbook example of functional marketing design.

The National Business College Catalog
This twenty page sales collateral piece is my favorite of all of my recent print work. Conceptually it was a drastic departure from anything previously attempted by the client. Moreover, it was very different from the primary marketing pieces of any college or university that I had seen at the time. This piece, more than any other, became the identity piece for the school. In attitude as well as message, it conveyed the advertising and marketing campaign theme of "Think Again." For a better appreciation of this campaign listen to the award winning series of 60 second radio spots presented on-line on the MEDIA PORTFOLIO page of this web site.
The Visual elements
Of particular interest are the photographic images and the mixed use of color and black & white photography. In the design layout, black & white is reality and color is the dream much like the movie "The Wizard og Oz." In this case however, the "reality" consists of an ongoing dialogue with three actual students with a question and answer narrative driving the text. The three students are presented in a conversational setting and are pictured in black & white photography speaking directly to the reader. The "dream" in the context of this piece, is the educational experience at National Business College culminating in graduation and rewarding employment. These images are in color and throughout the book the color photography assumes a dreamlike quality as in the case of the cover photo in this sample.
This piece offers the best example of my photoshop work in creating these glowing, warm and fuzzy images. Without ever suggesting to the viewer the underlying "Wizard of Oz" theme at work, the techniques employed in this piece hit the mark. I was greatly assisted in the creation of this piece by the fine photography of Kevin Hurley who captured some excellent, energetic moments in what could have easily been very dull images had a lessor photographer been behind the camera. And also, the threads of four narratives were expertly woven into a single compelling text by the able creative copywriting of Norma Lugar. I am very proud of this piece and of the collaberation it represents.

PatientWorks Pocket Folder Presentation Piece
This is one of my most successful pieces. It represents one of those rare instances where every aspect of a project turned out as it was intended. The unique texture and illusionary quality of PatientWorks printed collateral identity was presented nowhere more successfully than with this pocket presentation folder. Again, the combination of paper, inks and varnishes resulted in one very distinctive design solution.
